Michael Geoghegan QFA, CFP
Michael Geoghegan is the Managing Director of Agathos Financial Planning, one of Ireland’s leading financial brokerage houses.
He is a highly qualified and vastly experienced Financial Adviser and Financial Planner. A specialist in complex tax issues.
Michael’s depth of insight comes, in part from his varied and interesting career, and in part from his academic grounding.
Married to Pat & Lives in Terenure. Two grown-up boys. Enjoys travelling, playing golf, supporting Leinster rugby & Galway hurling.
His 400+ client portfolio includes;
- Clients in their 30s and 40s putting in place the structures for ongoing wealth accumulation and financial security and independence
- Proprietary Directors who need tax-efficient exit strategies
- Individuals approaching retirement seeking among other things to pass wealth to the next generation
Career Experience


Certified Financial Planner
2000 to 2013 – 13 Years
Prior to founding Agathos Financial Planning, Michael worked for many years with Canada Life as a consultant specialising in the area of corporate and private clients wealth management.

Managing Director
1990 to 2000 – 10 Years
Before Michael joined Canada Life, he spent almost a decade as the Managing Director of Punchestown. Under his stewardship, Punchestown hosted the European International Horse Trials, and working with Bord Fáilte and other stakeholders, he played a key role in the development of the Punchestown Resource.

Diplomat
1972 to 1990 – 18 Years
He was also a Career Diplomat and spent more than twenty-six years with the Department of Foreign Affairs. He was part of the Irish Permanent Representation in Brussels as Ireland joined the then European Economic Community, EEC, now the EU. He worked in the Anglo Irish section in the period leading to the signing of the Anglo Irish Agreement. He also worked on establishing and implementing the International Fund for Ireland.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
Academic Background:
Prior to founding Agathos, he qualified as a Certified Financial Planner.
He completed an MSc in Finance in UCD, and secured a BA and MA (hons) in Legal and Political Science in UCG. He also spent a year in All Hallows Seminary where he completed year one of a BA in Philosophy and Logic.
His qualifications and his wide-ranging personal career experience at the most senior levels enable him to bring a unique perspective and wisdom to his clients’ financial planning and wealth accumulation.
